Winter Springs city commission set to discuss using FEMA money to fix roads and bridges
Parts of Seminole County are still feeling the effects of Hurricane Ian.
Work continues in Winter Springs to make repairs to infrastructure - two and a half months after flood waters washed them out.
On Monday night, the city commission will discuss the use of FEMA money to repair several bridges that are still out.

Last week, Channel 9 updated you on the progress of some of the projects completed by the city, but the city still has some projects that need to be done.
Roads like Dyson Drive and Edgemon Avenue are completed but Winter Springs Boulevard is under construction right now.
“It was in fact, an unprecedented storm with an unprecedented response. Things are moving ahead very rapidly,” said Mayor Kevin McCann.

McCann said the big question now for the city commission is how to move forward with several bridges that that were damaged and are still closed to traffic.
They must weigh getting the work done fast with being fiscally responsible with taxpayer money and go through the FEMA process.
“FEMA is a complicated tool, and it is a tool in our toolbox. And they can help a great deal in offsetting the cost to the taxpayers. However, there are a lot of steps that you must follow. And sometimes that can slow the process down,” McCann added.

The commission will also hear the first reading of an ordinance on a moratorium when it comes to new development in Winter Springs.
They want to see if they need to tighten rules with storm water management with developers.
