Winter storm brings power outages, flooding to the Jersey Shore

An overnight storm left thousands of Jersey Shore residents without power Monday.

Jersey Central Power & Light reported 1,382 customers without power in Monmouth County and 1,130 in Ocean County Monday morning.

Middlesex and Monmouth counties remained under a coastal flood warning Monday morning, while Ocean and Burlington counties were under a coastal flood advisory, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS predicted "widespread roadway flooding" in towns along the Atlantic Ocean and Barnegat Bay.

"Many roads become impassable," according to the NWS. "Some damage to vulnerable structures may occur."

While the northwestern part of the state saw up to 6 inches of snow and the Philadelphia suburbs also saw some accumulation, the Jersey Shore mostly dealt with wind overnight, according to the NWS.

Power in Monmouth and Ocean counties were on schedule to be restored by Monday afternoon, according to JCP&L.
