Winter storm hits Michigan: Tracking snowfall totals

A major winter snow storm hit Michigan Friday afternoon, bringing heavy snow, thundersnow and high wind levels across the state. Low temperatures overnight may bring icy conditions Saturday, while snow and wind brought high rates of power outages across the region Friday.

Metro Detroit totals ranged from 2.3 inches in Roseville to 7 inches in Clarkston.

Further out, 15 inches fell in West Branch, Gladwin received 12 inches and Ortonville got 8.5 inches.

The largest total so far in the state was 26 inches in Champion Township, which is located in the Upper Peninsula. It was reported by a Cooperative Observer Network volunteer.

Not far from there, 25.3 inches was reported in National Mine by a National Weather Service employee.
