Winter Storm Quinlan: Bomb cyclone expected to bring snow, cold temperatures

The latest forecast released Tuesday says there's a chance of rain, mostly cloudy with a low around 56 on Christmas Day. It's looking unlikely we'll have a White Christmas in Cincinnati, but what's happened with the weather in Christmases past?

Slippery roads and at least 1-2 inches of snow are in the forecast tonight through Saturday, as the region is hit by a larger weather system.

Cincinnati is in the path of Winter Storm Quinlan, the bomb cyclone named by The Weather Channel that will hit large portions of the U.S. this weekend, bringing high winds and snow as it travels east.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the portions of Southeast Indiana, Northern Kentucky and Central and Southwest Ohio, which is in effect from 7 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday.

Snow, gusty winds followed by unseasonable cold Saturday

Under the advisory slippery road conditions are expected from total snow accumulations of 1-2 inches. In addition, gusty northwest winds will bring falling overnight temperatures. The lows around 15-20 degrees will result in wind chill values in the single digits, and unseasonably cold temperatures in the 20s on Saturday are expected as the gusty winds continue.

Following the freezing temperatures and snow over the weekend, temperatures are expected to warm up and become more spring-like, with highs in the mid- to upper 60s next week.
