Winter storm warning issued for much on Minnesota from Monday afternoon to Tuesday

— A Winter Storm Warning has been issued Sunday afternoon for west central, central, south central and east central Minnesota from Monday afternoon to Tuesday evening, according to the

National Weather Service

—Twin Cities.

The Winter Storm Warning is in effect at noon Monday in Lac qui Parle, Chippewa, Yellow Medicine, Renville, Sibley, Redwood and Brown counties.

The warning goes into effect in Kandiyohi, Meeker, McLeod, Pope, Stearns and Swift counties at 3 p.m. Monday.

A winter storm in the west is expected to become a multi-hazard storm early this week. As powerful storm system in the four-corners area moves eastward, a multi-hazard storm will develop with wintry impacts in the central and north Plains, and severe storms and heavy rain in the South, according to the Weather Service.

Heavy mixed precipitation is expected in west central Minnesota. Total snow accumulation will range between 7 to 12 inches, with ice accumulations of around one-tenth of an inch. Winds gusts as high as 35 mph are possible.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Heavy icing may result in downed tree branches and power lines.

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of emergency.
