Winter weather advisory in effect until 9 p.m. Wednesday

National Weather Service officials announced a winter weather advisory will remain in effect until 9 p.m. for portions of north central and northeast Illinois.

Officials warned of slippery road conditions for evening commuters and cautioned visibility could possibly be under a mile at times in the evening hours.

Snow accumulations were expected to be 3 to 5 inches Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

Portions of central, east central, north central and west central Indiana were under a winter storm warning until 7 p.m. Wednesday, officials said. Indiana could get 6 to 9 inches of snow Wednesday.

Snow accumulations near the lake in Illinois may be an inch more Wednesday evening, officials said.
