Winter weather advisory issued as rain and snow mix hits northern Oklahoma

After a mix of rain and snow moved through northern Oklahoma early Friday, some morning commutes and school days might be impacted.

Here's everything you need to know about the weather still to come and how this morning's snow is impacting Oklahomans:

Northern Oklahoma under winter weather advisory

The northern and northwestern Oklahoma counties of Harper, Woods, Alfalfa, Grant, Kay, Ellis and Woodward are under a winter weather advisory until noon on Friday. The mix of rain and snow is expected to turn into rain in the afternoon.

There could be snow accumulations up to one inch, according to the advisory, and potentially slippery road conditions.

School closings in Oklahoma

Oklahoma Panhandle University, located in Goodwell, Oklahoma just southwest of Guymon, is closed for the day.

Also in the panhandle, Hooker Public Schools will delay opening until 10 a.m. Friday.

Road conditions in Oklahoma

There were moderate to severe road conditions in northwestern Oklahoma and the panhandle Friday morning.

Power outages in Oklahoma

So far it appears no outages have been reported as a result of the wintry mix of precipitation, according to OGE, Tri-County Electric Cooperative and the Northwestern Electric Cooperative companies, the latter two of which provide electricity to the Oklahoma panhandle and northwestern Oklahoma.
