With snow and ice expected in the area most of Wednesday, Augusta County, Staunton and Waynesboro public schools have made the decision to close for the day.

The National Weather Service is forecasting 1 to 2 inches of snow and a tenth of an inch of ice for much of the area beginning early Wednesday morning. A winter weather advisory is in effect from 5 a.m. until 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Schools in Staunton announced at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday that they will be closed Wednesday due to potential hazardous driving conditions. Waynesboro made the call ten minutes later. The county called it just after 7 p.m.

In the likelihood of snow and rain Wednesday morning, please drive safely if you have to go out.
