Winton Woods running back Trey Cornist decommits from Georgia Tech

One of Cincinnati's top high school football players is making a change.

Winton Woods senior running back Trey Cornist announced he has decommitted from Georgia Tech in a tweet Tuesday night.

"First and foremost, I would like to thank the entire coaching staff at Georgia Tech for all of the love and support you all have shown me over the past few months," Cornist said in the tweet. "It has honestly meant the world to me and that is what has made this decision such a tough one for me to make."

According to 247Sports, Cornist was recruited to Georgia Tech by former Princeton High School head coach Mike Daniels, who resigned from his role as running backs coach at Georgia Tech earlier this month. Cornist originally committed to Georgia Tech in June.

A three-star recruit and the No. 34 overall prospect in Ohio for the Class of 2023, Cornist ran for 1,757 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2020-2021 combined with the Mt. Healthy Owls. He transferred to Winton Woods for his senior season and immediately began making noise in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference.

Cornist won the ECC regular-season rushing title with 1,390 yards on just 136 attempts (10.2 yards per carry) and 20 touchdowns, helping Winton Woods go 10-0 for the first time in program history.

Cornist had a string of five consecutive 100-yard efforts earlier this season, which included a 343-yard, six-touchdown performance in a 62-31 victory over Anderson. Cornist's half-dozen touchdowns tied a school-record held by current Ohio State running back Miyan Williams.

Cornist's official offer sheet includes Ball State, Buffalo, Marshall, Massachusetts, Tennessee State and Purdue. He has picked up more offers this season, including from Alcorn State, Toledo, Grambling State, per his Twitter.

Allen Trieu of 247Sports reported that bigger Division I programs are interested in Cornist, saying in a tweet that "Iowa, Purdue, Syracuse, Ohio State and others are schools he's communicating with."
