Winter weather advisory expanded into more metro Atlanta counties

A winter weather advisory has been expanded into metro Atlanta.

Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz said the main impacts in the advisory area will be icy patches, especially on bridges and overpasses.

A wintry mix will continue in spots through early Tuesday morning.

A winter storm warning is in effect for Fannin County where there’s a better chance for accumulating snow, up to about one inch.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Bartow, Chattooga, Cherokee, Clay, Dawson, Floyd, Gilmer, Gordon, Haralson, Lumpkin, Polk, Pickens, Towns, Union, and White Counties until Tuesday morning.

The advisory has been expanded to include Carroll, Cobb, Douglas, Forsyth, Fulton, and Paulding Counties beginning at 4 a.m. Tuesday and lasting until noon.

What you need to know:

  • Around metro Atlanta, some light freezing rain is possible in the early morning hours Tuesday. Icy patches may develop on elevated surfaces.

  • Falling temperatures through Tuesday with strong wind gusts.

  • Wind Chill Advisory for Wednesday morning.

  • Temperatures will be in the low teens in Atlanta with wind chills near zero – coldest weather we’ve felt since December 2022

  • Another shot of bitterly cold air moving in for this weekend.
