This story has been updated.

Thursday's winter storm will shift southeast, bringing more snow to Fond du Lac and Sheboygan and less to Green Bay, Door County and the Fox Cities.

Over the past few days, the predicted storm track has been making a "steady shift" south, National Weather Service meteorologist J. J. Wood said.

"It's possible it could shift even further south," he said, but the heaviest snow will likely remain on an axis from Madison to Fond du Lac.

The NWS also released updated predicted snow totals Thursday morning. While snow is still forecast for Appleton, Oshkosh, Green Bay and Door County, the totals are expected to be less than 3 inches.

An updated Winter Weather Advisory issued Thursday also said the timing of the storm has shifted — now snow will most likely fall in the late morning to mid-afternoon.

While temperatures are expected to be mild through Thursday, highs are forecast to dip into the 20s and low 30s Friday.

Further south, an updated Winter Weather Advisory issued Thursday for Fond du Lac, Columbia, Dodge, Iowa, Dane and Lafayette Counties said those areas are forecast to get 3 to 6 inches of snow from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.

And, after a stretch of highs in the 40s, highs are forecast to hover around the low 30s Friday and Saturday in southern Wisconsin.

This storm is expected to bring heavy, wet snow, which could make roads slippery and make shoveling difficult. However, the NWS said Thursday the storm would mostly impact the afternoon commute, not the morning as they had stated earlier.
