Wiregrass inmate dead; doing life for attempted murder in Dale County

ELMORE, Ala. (WDHN) — A Wiregrass inmate was found unresponsive at the Staton Correctional Facility in Elmore, Alabama.

According to the Alabama Department of Corrections, on Sunday, January 28, Inmate Lonnie Dixon was discovered unresponsive in his cell.

Officials say medical staff administered life-saving measures and transported Dixon to the facility’s Health Care Unit.

Dixon was later pronounced dead by an attending physician.

The 54-year-old inmate was serving a life sentence for attempted murder out of Dale County.

The ADOC Law Enforcement Services Division is investigating the death.
