A Wisconsin fire department gets truck donation from Ashwaubenon firefighter

MIDDLE INLET, Wis. (WFRV) – A Northwoods fire crew received a friendly gift from a fellow firefighter in Ashwaubenon.

The Middle Inlet Fire Department were gifted a 1993 Pierce fire truck from Ashwaubenon firefighter Russ Van Rite. Van Rite purchased the truck for $7,500 when the Ashwaubenon Fire Department decided to retire the vehicle.

“They were going to sell it, so I figured it would be nice to take a truck that I used for years, and try to donate that to somewhere up north,” Van Rite says.

Middle Inlet only had one truck for their entire community before receiving this one, and it comes with some new handy features including a ladder that comes down from the side of truck to a deck gun that can shoot up to 1,000 gallons of water per minute.

If it was not for Van Rite’s donation, Middle Inlet fire crews would continue to be short-handed.

Middle Inlet Fire Chief Jon Kleuskens says, “A new truck, we would never be able to afford in Middle Inlet just because of the cost of new and even used trucks are still quite pricey. Being [Van Rite] was generous enough to donate this is a very big help to the town.”

Kleuskens also says despite the truck being more than 3 decades old, it is in good condition.
