Wisconsin football star Braelon Allen honors late running backs coach Gary Brown with custom-made cleats

Gone, but not forgotten.

Wisconsin star running back Braelon Allen is paying tribute to late running backs coach Gary Brown this season.

Brown, 52, twice was diagnosed with cancer before he joined the UW staff before last season. He died on April 10.

During pregame warmups Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium, Allen was sporting custom-made cleats honoring his former coach.

The quote on the shoe, "Take the shackles off your game," was something Brown preached to Allen.

Allen did not wear the shoes during the game with Washington State, but they were mentioned by the Fox announcers during the third quarter.

After his record-setting 96-yard touchdown run against Illinois State last week, Allen was spotted on the sideline flexing his left bicep where he has a “GB” tattoo in honor of Brown.

“After the touchdown I was too tired. I completely forgot,” Allen said following the Illinois State game. “When I was walking to the sideline I was like ‘Oh man, I’ve got to show my ‘GB.’ I know he’s watching down on me and he’s proud.”
