Wisconsin man extricated from plane after crashing near airport, suffers serious injuries

SEXTONVILLE, Wis. (WFRV) – One person was extricated and hospitalized after a plane crash in southwest Wisconsin on Thursday evening.

According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, shortly after 6:00 p.m. on February 22, authorities received a report of a plane that had crashed near the Sextonville airport on County Highway BA.

The plane was located south of County Highway BA in a field just north of Nebraska Hollow Road. Deputies and other first responders arrived on the scene to extricate the man, later identified as 54-year-old Mark Baenen from Spring Green.

UW Med Flight was contacted, and Baenen was transported to UW Hospital for his injuries. His status remains unknown at this time.

UPDATE: One person dead following hours-long shutdown on I-41 in Appleton

The National Transportation Safety Board was contacted regarding the crash.
