Wisconsin man fired from children’s museum job over Hitler costume

A Wisconsin man has been fired from his job after he wore an Adolf Hitler costume for Halloween over the weekend.

The man was fired Tuesday night after the Madison Children’s Museum “determined that his continued employment would create an environment at odds with our values and unwelcoming to visitors and staff.”

The museum had earlier said the man believed he was mocking Hitler.

“This is completely unacceptable and runs counter to everything the museum believes. We stand against antisemitism and all forms of bigotry and discrimination,” the museum said in a statement.

“We stand against antisemitism and all forms of bigotry and discrimination.”

The man reportedly has cognitive disabilities due to a traumatic brain injury. His mother thanked the museum and the Madison police for informing her of the situation.

“We asked for privacy as we work with professionals on this sensitive matter,” she said.

The museum indicated in its statement that it was willing to participate in that process.

“We still hope to facilitate a restorative justice process to redress the harm done to the community while allowing him to understand the effects of his actions and accept accountability.”
