MADISON – Monday was a productive day for Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell and his staff.

Guard Michael Furtney, who entered the transfer portal last week, started the day off by announcing that after talking to Fickell, offensive coordinator Phil Longo and offensive line coach Jack Bicknell Jr. he plans to stay at UW. He has one season of eligibility remaining.

“After great talks with Coach Fickell, Coach Longo, and Coach Bicknell I have removed my name from the transfer portal,” Furtney wrote. “Great things are happening here, I believe in the vision my coaches have for this team. I am excited to get back on the field with my brothers. UW is my home!”

UW then secured oral commitments from two players who had committed to Cincinnati before Fickell was hired at UW.

Florida cornerback Jonas Duclona announced via Twitter that he had committed and a few minutes later he was joined by Braedyn Moore of Ohio. Moore is listed as an "athlete" but could play safety in college.

The 6-foot, 175-pound Duclona committed to Cincinnati in June but de-committed on Nov. 28, one day after UW officials announced they had hired Fickell.

When he chose Cincinnati, Duclona reportedly had offers from Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Florida, Arkansas and others.

Moore, 6-2 and 190, committed to Cincinnati in April. At the time he held offers from Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, West Virginia, Boston College and others.

He de-committed on Nov. 30 and reportedly chose UW over West Virginia and Indiana.

Duclona and Moore give UW 10 known commitments for the 2023 class.

Furtney's decision to stay in Madison gives UW a veteran lineman for the Guaranteed Rate Bowl on Dec. 27 in Phoenix and a potential starter in 2023. Center Joe Tippman and guard Tyler Beach are both preparing for the 2023 NFL draft.

Furtney, a fifth-year senior, entered the 2022 season with two starts and 31 game splayed. He started eight games at right guard this season.

Furtney had a solid offer list as a senior at Milan High School in Michigan in 2018. Cincinnati was among the schools to offer Furtney and Fickell was in his first season as the Bearcats' head coach in 2017.
