Wisconsin Sets New Coronavirus Record; Cases Spike At UW-Madison

MILWAUKEE, WI — Wisconsin has set a new COVID-19 case record for the second time this week. On Thursday, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported 1,547 new cases over the last 24 hours.

Thursday's case count eclipses the previous record of 1,498 new cases which was recorded one week ago.

As of Friday, Wisconsin's seven-day case average reached 1,004. That's a new record, according to DHS data.

Here are 5 things to know about Wisconsin's latest COVID-19 case record.

1. Thursday's positive case percentage was 17.5 percent. The state's historical positive case percentage is 6.38 percent.

2. Dane County saw 31.1 percent of all new cases reported Thursday. UW-Madison switched to all-virtual learning for two weeks and several campus buildings have been put on quarantine.

3. Ten people died of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the historical total up to 1,193 fatalities since March.

4. There 8,836 active COVID-19 cases in Wisconsin — representing 10.4 percent of all cases.

5. The previous record was on Sep. 4, when the DHS reported 1,498 new COVID-19 cases.
