Wisconsin State Patrol reminds drivers on what side of the road to pull over for emergency responders
(WFRV) – Ever wonder which side of the road you are supposed to pull over in Wisconsin when emergency responders are behind you? Well, the State Patrol answered that question on its Facebook page.
The Wisconsin State Patrol posted on its Facebook page reminding drivers with emergency responders behind them where to pull over. The post says that drivers must pull over to the right side of the roadway.

This is to help responders get to emergencies more quickly, and stopping on the left side can reportedly be dangerous. According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, there is often less space between the vehicle and other passing vehicles.

Upon the approach of any authorized emergency vehicle giving audible signal by siren the operator of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way and shall immediately drive such vehicle to a position as near as possible and parallel to the right curb or the right-hand edge of the shoulder of the roadway, clear of any intersection and, unless otherwise directed by a traffic officer, shall stop and remain standing in such position until the authorized emergency vehicle has passed.
