Jim Leonhard's Wisconsin Badgers football team (4-4, 2-3 Big Ten) got back in the win column against Big Ten-West leading Purdue (5-3, 3-2) Saturday afternoon at Camp Randall Stadium.

Blog host Mark Stewart brought live updates and analysis from the press box throughout the game. Here's a replay.

Purdue adds meaningless touchdown in final 90 seconds

With the game no longer in doubt, Aidan O'Connell scored on a 1-yard run with 1:24 remaining. The play capped a nine-play, 87-yard drive for the Boilermakers.

Score: Wisconsin 35, Purdue 24.

A Purdue touchdown and a bit of controversy

The Boilermakers' second touchdown of the game came on a 1-yard run by Devin Mockobee that most of the 75,018 fans in attendance swear the officials got wrong. Purdue drove 80 yards in 11 plays when it was faced with fourth and goal from the 1.

Mockobee took the handoff but linebacker Jordan Turner got good penetration on the play and was able to wrap Mockobee's legs before he could make a good push for the end zone. Instead of leaping for the end zone, he reached the ball toward the goal line and the officials on the field ruled the play a touchdown.

The play was reviewed by instant replay but apparently there wasn't enough evidence to overturn the call.

Score: Wisconsin 35, Purdue 17, 12:05 fourth quarter.

With Braelon Allen out, Isaac Guerendo goes the distance

Sophomore Braelon Allen's day is likely done. He has been announced as questionable to return due to a left arm injury.

His absence means more work for Guerendo, who made the most of the opportunity late in the third quarter. His 54-yard touchdown run helped push the UW lead to 35-10. It was his first touchdown of the Big Ten season and fourth score of the year.

Score: Wisconsin 35, Purdue 10, 2:42 third quarter.

Purdue finally reaches end zone ... with aid of UW turnover

The Boilermakers took advantage of a mishandled punt by UW's Dean Engram to score its first touchdown of the afternoon.

Engram muffed the punt at the 23 and Purdue's Nick Zecchino recovered the ball at the 21-yard-line. Four plays later, Aidan O'Connell hit tight end Payne Durham for an 8-yard touchdown on second and goal. On the play, O'Connell rolled to his right before throwing to Durham on the opposite side of the field.

Score: Wisconsin 28, Purdue 10, 4:12, third quarter.

John Torchio INT leads to Braelon Allen TD

Braelon Allen's 14-yard for a score at the 14:08 mark of the third quarter marked the third straight game the sophomore reached the end zone. The play put him on the cusp of another 100-yard day - he is just 9 yards away.

The score was set up by John Torchio's second interception of the day and fifth of the season. Similar to his first pick, which he returned for a 31-yard touchdown, Torchio's ability to diagnose the play and then make a great break on the ball was key to the turnover.

Score: Wisconsin 28, Purdue 3, 14:08 third quarter

OLB Nick Herbig sidelined

Outside linebacker Nick Herbig has been on the sideline this afternoon, but hasn't played. The official word from UW is that he is available in a limited capacity. The junior wasn't listed on the injury report earlier in the week and appeared to be moving well when he ran out of the tunnel before the game. Given the amount of injuries Wisconsin has experienced this season, it's probably wise to protect Herbig's health given how the game is going so far.

A look at the halftime stats

Purdue settles for Mitchell Fineran field goal

Purdue got on the scoreboard with 2:38 left in the first half on a 36-yard field goal by Mitchell Fineran. Consider the score a victory of sort for UW, which forced Purdue to settle for three points after it drove 71 yards in 13 plays.

UW’s ability to stop Purdue drives on downs, with punts or field goal attempts has been a storyline of the first half. The Boilermakers moved 66 yards in eight plays on their second possession before Fineran missed a 26-yard field goal that would have cut into a 14-0 deficit. And early in the second quarter Kaden Johnson and Justin Clark dropped running back Devin Mockobee for a 2-yard loss on third and 1. That set up an unsuccessful fourth down play at the Wisconsin 28.

Score: Wisconsin 21, Purdue 3

UW adds to lead with Graham Mertz-Chimere Dike connection

Following an eight play, 80-yard touchdown drive that gave the Badgers a 21-0 advantage, UW has out-gained Purdue, 156-71, in total yards.

Mertz recorded his second TD pass on a throw to Chimere Dike on a 3-yard play with 2:38 left in the first quarter. The big plays of the drive came on the ground with UW leaning heavily on its jumbo package. Fifty-eight of the Badgers' yards on the possession came running the ball with Braelon Allen supplying a 41-yard run that set up first and goal at the 6. That play came with the Badgers' jumbo package on the field, which has gotten more use since Jim Leonhard has taken over the team.

Score: Wisconsin 21, Purdue 0, 2:38 first quarter.

Jewelry thief John Torchio's pick-6 gives UW a two TD lead

Safety John Torchio recorded his second interception return for a touchdown of the season on Purdue's first drive of the game. The senior made a perfect read and break on the ball of Aidan O'Connell throw to Tyrone Tracy on third and 5. Torchio was untouched on the 31-yard return, which after the extra point gave the Badgers a 14-0 lead with 11:16 left in the first quarter.

Torchio also had a school-record 100-yard interception return for a touchdown against Illinois State in the season opener.

Graham Mertz makes use of play action on first TD drive

Wisconsin moved the ball with ease on its first possession. It needed only 2 minutes 26 seconds and five plays to cover 76 yards and reach the end zone for the first time. Graham Mertz hit Skyler Bell for a 29-yard score, which after the Nate Van Zelst's extra point gave the Badgers a 7-0 lead.

The score was one of three big plays for UW on the possession. Mertz had a hand in all three. His touchdown and a 27-yard pass to Bell earlier in the drive came off play action. Mertz also had a 9-yard run on third and 4 that set up the first down play that result in a touchdown.

For a team in need of a win, it was a great way to start the day.

Score: Wisconsin 7, Purdue 0
