Wise selected as presiding judge for appeals court

A Stark County resident has been selected to serve as presiding judge for Ohio’s Fifth District Court of Appeals.

Judge Earle E. Wise Jr. was selected to serve throughout 2022. Wise previously served as the court’s administrative judge.

The Marlington High School graduate was elected to the court in November 2016.

Prevously, he served as a private practice attorney in Stark and surrounding counties. In addition, he previously served as an assistant public defender in Carroll County; city administrator for North Canton from 2005 to 2010; and was an assistant Stark County prosecutor from 1997 to 2005. While attending law school, Wise worked as deputy director of the Stark County Board of Elections.

Before law school, the Army National Guard veteran served as bailiff for former Stark County Common Pleas Judge James S. Gwin. Wise graduated from College of Wooster and University of Akron School of Law. He is married and has two children.

Fifth District Court of Appeals Judge Craig R. Baldwin was elected as the court’s administrative judge. Baldwin is a former Licking County Court Common Pleas Court judge in the Domestic Relations Division.

Baldwin, a graduate of Ohio University and Capital University’s College of Law and an attorney since 1992, is married and has two children.
