The Witcher star Emma Appleton has landed her next lead TV role in new series The Road Trip.

The actress, known for playing Renfri in the Netflix series, will take on the role of a late 20-something called Addie in the Paramount+ show, who embarks on a road trip alongside her sister (Ghosts' Isabella Laughland) to a friend's wedding in Spain.

Based on the novel by The Flatshare's Beth O'Leary, The Road Trip sees the sisters forced to share a lift with Addie's ex Dylan (The Sandman's Laurie Davidson) and his best friend Marcus (Rye Lane's David Jonsson), as well as a stranger called Rodney (Fleabag's Angus Imrie).

The group are stuck together in a campervan, as they confront their history and secrets come to the fore. The series also flashes back to Addie and Dylan's former relationship, with everyone having different ideas about why they broke up.

The show will consist of six episodes, with writers including Matilda Wnek, Ryan O'Sullivan, Phoebe Eclair-Powell and Waleed Akhtar, while China Moo-Young and Stella Corradi are set to direct.

"I am so thrilled to finally be able to shout about this news!" O'Leary said of the adaptation. "42 and Paramount+ were the dream team behind The Flatshare series, so it's wonderful to know that The Road Trip is in such safe, skilled hands.

"It's a unique privilege to be trusted with a second Beth O'Leary bestseller, and Ryan and Matilda have done an extraordinary job of translating the hilarious and poignant narrative to the screen. With the brilliant China Moo-Young in the driving seat as lead director and such a wonderful cast, it's going to be one hell of a ride!"
