Jay McAuley has resigned as men's basketball coach at Wofford College, the school announced Friday.

No reason for McAuley's resignation was given, though he announced Dec. 5 he was taking a leave of absence. He had compiled a 58-42 record since becoming the Terriers' coach before the 2019-20 season.

Dwight Perry, who has served as interim head coach since McAuley took the leave, is expected to continue in that role. Wofford is 8-6 this season, including 3-2 since Perry took over.

McAuley, 42, had served as associate coach at Wofford from 2017 to 2019 before being selected to replace Mike Young, who resigned to become head coach at Virginia Tech. McAuley also had served as an assistant at Wofford (2008-10).

"Wofford basketball is thankful for his service and leadership," the school wrote in the release, "and we wish he and his family well in future endeavors."
