'Woke' Canceled At Hulu After Two Seasons

Hulu comedy series Woke has been cancelled after two seasons. The series was inspired by the life and career of artist Keith Knight and starred Lamorne Morris as Keef, a cartoonist who has to balance his success with racial and social demands on his career.

Deadline reported the news, but there isn't any word on why the series was canceled.

Morris also has tweeted about his feelings regarding the show's cancellation.

Morris also has tweeted about his feelings regarding the show’s cancellation. But, it is worth noting that his role in the series has put on the Emmys shortlist for Lead Actor in a comedy series. Those also on the list include Stephan Merchant for The Outlaws, Thomas Middleditch for B Positive, Tracy Morgan for The Last O.G., Myke Myers for The Pentaverate, Kayvan Novak for What We Do in the Shadows, Dan Perlman for Flatbush Misdemeanors, and Michael Rapaport for Atypical.

Morris and co-stars Sasheer Zamata, T Murph and Blake Anderson talked to Shadow and Act in April about the second season.

Morris said that the second season was all about expanding people’s ideas of what it means to be a person in the middle of “woke culture.”

“You don’t have to pick sides, you can just love, be kind to folks, [and] fix what you can change,” he said. “You can do that thing, it doesn’t have to be grand, it doesn’t have to be big, and it doesn’t have to be performative, you know what I mean? You can just be. If you want to be an ally, cool. Sometimes it’s okay to just do nothing. Sometimes it’s okay to just say ‘man I get it.’ You don’t have to have a quote wall, you don’t have to read off these books and do all this stuff all the time.”
