This is a love story. It involves both Nicolas Cage and Chadwick Boseman, a pairing as unlikely as it is electric. They are, both of them, enamored. But not of each other. Their affections are directed at, of all things, a jacket. Madness? I think not! This jacket is denim, but it is also shearling! It is covered with wolves, but not just any old wolves: airbrushed wolves! It is a triumph of form and function, courtesy of L.A.-based brand Amiri.

And here's the twist: Now I'm in love, too. The triangle has become a quadrangle. Oh, what a twisted web. Let's go back to the beginning, to try to untangle and square those angles.

Nicolas Cage attends the premiere of Running With the Devil in Beverly Hills, California. He wears the Wolf Jacket. He also, somewhat inexplicably, wears a cowboy hat. The effect is jarring.

That is fucking fantastic, I whisper to myself. And then, Wait, I know that jacket. I spend a lot of time looking at clothes. Some fade from memory, but Amiri's printed denim-and-shearling jacket had stuck in my mind since I first saw it while browsing through the (digital) racks at Mr Porter. Probably because it features a bunch of snarling wolves on it, and that is just plain awesome.

I would like to reiterate, just because I feel it's important, that this is a jacket covered in wolves. I also reiterate this to help explain the next step in my journey.

I think about the Wolf Jacket. Not all the time. But often. I yearn. Quietly.

Chadwick Boseman is seen outside the Today show in New York City. He wears the Wolf Jacket, despite famously being a panther-based superhero. Unlike Nic Cage, he does not wear a cowboy hat. But he does wear a black-and-blue plaid shirt and a pair of sunglasses. He looks great, and, compared to Nic Cage, the overall effect is less jarring. (I suspect this to be true of anyone or anything compared to Nic Cage.)

And now, here I am. The Wolf Jacket is rekindled in my psyche. I yearn, once again. The Wolf Jacket—the concept, the beloved, the object of affection—is singular. Cage, Boseman, me: All three of us love the same thing. But there is more than one wolf jacket—the garment, the item, the reality—in this world. And that means, eventually, all three loves can be requited. The web untangles. The quadrangle becomes a square. I want that fucking wolf jacket.
