Wolfsburg forward Lukas Nmecha could make his Bundesliga comeback after 15 months on the sidelines in Saturday's match against Borussia Dortmund, coach Niko Kavac has said.

Nmecha, 25, suffered a knee injury in Wolfsburg's last home game against Dortmund in November 2022 and has not played in the league since then. The German international also missed the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

He suffered two setbacks during the long comeback process and underwent surgery after featuring in a German Cup match in August.

Kovac said on Thursday he was now ready to play for at least a few minutes.

"You can see that he hasn't played for three quarters of a year. He already has quite a lot of desire for football, you can see that in training," Kovac said.

"We also know that he's not a player who can play from the beginning right now. But he gives us an option that he might be able to play 10 or 15 minutes. We're very positive about that."

Should Nmecha play on Saturday he will not be facing his brother, Felix Nmecha, because the Dortmund player is sidelined with a hip problem.
