The shooting apparently originated from a neighbor dispute Saturday at a residence in the 8000 block of Werger Road in Windham Township.

Shooting took place in rural area of Portage County

Werger Road is a rural two-lane thoroughfare less than a mile long stretching between Stanley Road and state Route 82.

Most of the houses lining the street are on the northern side, facing a large field across the road to the south. There are sections of trees in between most properties, some dense enough that they hide the houses positioned amongst them from view.

No one living along Werger Road was available for comment Tuesday when a reporter knocked on doors in the neighborhood. The only person who answered their door said they weren't home on the day of the shooting.

The initial short news release posted by the sheriff's office on social media called the incident a "deputy-involved shooting" and stated that a Garrettsville police officer was also at the scene. But the coroner's office said it might have been an officer from the Windham Police Department.
