Woman, 80, killed while crossing SR 44 in Leesburg, police say

An elderly woman died after being struck by two vehicles along a stretch of State Road 44 on Sunday, Leesburg police said.

Officers responded to SR 44, also known as Dixie Avenue, in the area of Euclid Avenue shortly before 8 p.m.

Investigators determined that the woman, 80, was trying to walk across Dixie Avenue when two eastbound cars — a Kia and a Hyundai — collided with her in the outside lane of the roadway.

Police said the pedestrian, Gladys Lopez, died at the crash site.

Investigators identified the driver of the 2015 black Kia as Michael Lehman, 40, of Leesburg.

Eric Dillard, 40, also of Leesburg, was driving the blue 2011 Hyundai that was involved in the crash, police said.

Leesburg police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or who might have information about the incident, to contact LPD’s Traffic Unit at 352-728-9862.
