Woman, 83, killed in Hiram Township single-vehicle crash Wednesday evening

A Geauga County woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash on state Route 700 in Hiram Township Wednesday evening, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said in a media release.

Kathryn Dent, 83, of Middlefield, was driving a 2019 Nissan Rogue northbound when the SUV went off the east side of the road and struck a ditch, culvert and embankment before coming to a rest at about 7:34 p.m.

Dent, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene, the highway patrol said.

The Portage County Sheriff's Office, Hiram Township Fire Department and EMS, Hiram Police Department and Portage County Coroner's Office assisted at the scene.

The road was closed for a time after the crash, which remains under investigation.
