CANTON ‒ The first court appearance for a woman accused of posing as a social worker and taking an infant from the baby's Canton home has been continued a second time.

Sapphire McDougleh, 33, of Coshocton, was scheduled to be arraigned Monday on a felony kidnapping charge in Canton Municipal Court but was unable to attend because she was in the hospital. The hearing was continued to Tuesday but was once again postponed while McDougleh continues her stay in the hospital, officials said.

Magistrate Derek McClowry said he is not sure what McDougleh is being treated for or how long she will remain hospitalized.

Baby kidnapping: Suspect has court hearing pushed back; co-defendant pleads not guilty

McDougleh was arrested Friday by the Coshocton County Sheriff's Office, accused of posing as a Child Protective Services worker and removing a 3-week-old child from her mother's Canton apartment.

A codefendant, Brandon Savage, 20, of Coshocton, also was arrested and charged with complicity to kidnapping.

The baby was found with the pair in Coshocton County and recovered safely, according to investigators, before being returned to the child's parents.
