Woman arrested on attempted murder charge
Sep. 25—A 36-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder after police say she intentionally set fire to her ex-boyfriend's home and the two cars in his driveway.
Attiya Ahmad was arrested Thursday on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree arson, criminal mischief between $5,000 and $20,000 and two counts of fourth-degree arson. Her bond was set at $50,000. As of Friday, she remains in the Broomfield County Jail.
North Metro Fire Rescue District responded to the fire in the driveway of a home in the 2300 block of Rim Drive on Thursday morning and extinguished the flames before any major damage occurred to the home, according to the fire district's Twitter. Ahmad's ex-boyfriend lives in the home, Broomfield police Public Information Officer Rachel Welte said.
North Metro Fire Public Information Officer Sara Farris said Thursday she didn't know the extent of the damage to the Jeep, though she said there was some fire damage near the entrance of the house.
No injuries related to the fire were reported, Welte said.
Ahmad is next scheduled to appear in court Tuesday for a return filing of charges. She has no criminal history in Colorado, online court records show.
