Woman arrested in connection with fatal tent fire in Mormon Slough

Stockton police arrested a woman on Sunday in connection with a tent fire in which one person was killed and another injured in Mormon Slough.

Erica Mora, 40, was arrested near Phelps and 10th streets in Stockton and booked into the San Joaquin County Jail, police said.

At about 5:33 p.m. on July 7, a 35-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were inside a tent in Mormon Slough near Airport Way when someone set the tent and the two occupants on fire, according to police.

Three Stockton Fire Department engines responded to the fire, Battalion Chief Brandon Doolan said, and both victims were transported to San Joaquin General Hospital. The man died of his injuries at the hospital, according to police.

The victim has been identified but the name not released, Christy Patterson, a spokesperson for the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner said Thursday.

A police spokesman said the motive may have been a relationship dispute.

"(Mora) went back and found her boyfriend with another woman, and poured gasoline on the tent and lit it on fire intentionally," spokesman Officer Joseph Silva said.

Mora was scheduled to appear in San Joaquin County Superior Court for the first time Tuesday afternoon for arraignment.
