Woman arrested in fatal crash on Amarillo Boulevard

A 26-year-old woman was arrested in connection to a Sunday night crash in which a 72-year-old man who was crossing Amarillo Boulevard was struck and killed.

According to a news release, at 10:37 p.m., officers from the Amarillo Police Department were called to a report of a crash involving a pedestrian in the 700 block of Amarillo Boulevard East.

A 72-year-old male pedestrian was crossing Amarillo Boulevard when he was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Grant and Amarillo Boulevard East. He died at the scene due to the injuries he sustained in the crash.

The vehicle was identified as an Orange Jeep Wrangler, driven by Alejandra Baray Martinez. The Jeep was heading westbound on Amarillo Boulevard at the time of the crash, and Martinez showed signs of intoxication, according to the police.

The pedestrian's next of kin has not been located at this time.

Martinez was arrested on charges for intoxication manslaughter. She was booked into the Potter County Detention Center.

This crash is being investigated by the Traffic Unit of the Amarillo Police Department.
