Woman Arrested After Throwing Dog From Balcony of Florida Motel

A woman was charged with animal cruelty after she threw a dog from the second-floor balcony of a motel in Daytona Beach, Florida, on December 14.

According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Daytona Beach police responded to a Motel 6 after staff reported that a woman attacked a maid and was threatening to jump from the balcony.

The suspect, 35-year-old Allison Murphy, was locked in her room when police arrived at the scene. She emerged with a German shepherd on a leash after they knocked several times, and then picked the dog up and let it drop over the railing.

Murphy was arrested on felony charges of animal cruelty and resisting an officer with violence.

The dog, which police named Miracle, was taken to the Atlantic Animal Hospital in Port Orange. Luckily, she didn’t sustain any serious injuries from the fall, but an X-ray revealed she had a sewing needle lodged in her right thigh.

The needle was removed, and Miracle is now recovering with Animal Services, the sheriff’s office said. Credit: Volusia Sheriff’s Office via Storyful
