A 48-year-old woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in southwest Pierce County early Saturday, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
Just after midnight, deputies responded to the 1200 block of 304th Street East in Roy after witnesses reported a collision involving a single car.
Upon arriving at the scene, responders found the woman, who was a passenger and had been ejected from the vehicle.
She was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the car, a 43-year-old woman, had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported to a hospital.
According to the PCSD, the vehicle was traveling westbound on 304th St E when it went off the roadway. It then struck two trees before coming to rest in a ditch on the north side of the road.
Traffic deputies’ initial investigation indicates that speed and impairment were factors in the collision.
South Pierce Fire & Rescue and Graham Fire & Rescue also responded to the scene.
The driver has since been arrested for vehicular homicide.
She will be transported to the Pierce County Jail upon her release from the hospital.
