Woman arrested for wrecker theft

Aug. 27—Deputies with the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office got a little help recently from an employee of a local towing company after a wrecker was stolen.

A 22-year-old Milledgeville woman was arrested Aug. 17 and accused of stealing the rollback wrecker.

The theft happened at Pittman's Towing lot on West Hancock Street in Milledgeville.

The suspect was identified as Lillian Marie Adams, of the 2900 block of North Columbia Street, according to an incident report filed by Baldwin County Sheriff's Office Deputy Saralynn Henderson.

Adams was charged with one count of theft by taking in connection with the theft of a red 2017 Ford F-550 rollback tow truck.

After her arrest, Adams was taken to the Baldwin County Law Enforcement Center where she was jailed.

Henderson said a 911 dispatcher informed her that the suspect who reportedly stole the wrecker was seen driving it in the area of Gordon Highway and Colony Farm Road.

While en route to the area, Henderson said she received additional information from a dispatcher that a tow truck driver from the same company had spotted the stolen wrecker and had it blocked in near 220 Gordon Highway.

Henderson said she and fellow Deputies Cecilio Reyes and Samuel Robinson detained the suspect when they got to the scene.

"We also made contact with Sean Pittman, the tow driver," Henderson said. "Sean stated he noticed a woman driving the truck and confirmed they did not have any female tow truck drivers. Sean stated that when he confronted her, she exited the truck appearing to be on some type of drugs. Sean stated she was saying weird things like, 'I'm going to daddy's, gotta dig up a grave.'"

The woman then began walking toward a nearby residence on Gordon Highway.

Henderson said Adams was questioned about what happened.

The deputy said the woman walked by the tow truck lot and saw the keys in the ignition.

The woman said she borrowed the truck and did not steal it, Henderson said.

Deputies then arrested Adams.

Henderson said Reyes later watched surveillance video of the theft.

Before her arrest, the suspect was taken to Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin hospital to be medically cleared since she admitted to using methamphetamine earlier that day, according to the incident report.
