Woman on bicycle struck, killed by truck near Auburn

(FOX40.COM) — A woman who was riding her bike with someone else was fatally struck by a truck near Auburn Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The agency said the crash happened around 10:50 a.m. on Lozanos Rd. close to Ophir Elementary School, which was placed on a lockdown temporarily.

The 60-year-old woman was riding with someone else when she was struck, the CHP said.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim during this incredibly difficult time,” the CHP said. “Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the cyclist, and we mourn alongside them.”

The agency said that it is still determining what caused the crash and is asking anyone who travels through the area to use caution, highlighting the importance of safety and vigilance for all road users, including cyclists.
