Woman charged in connection to Ft. Riley soldier death

JUNCTION CITY (KSNT) – A woman has been charged in connection to a shooting death that happened at a military post in Junction City.

Margaret E. Shafe, 30 of Fort Riley is being charged with murder in the second degree for the shooting death of Greg Shafe on Feb. 19 2024 while in Fort Riley, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

According to a social media post from the 1st Infantry Division, a 1st Infantry Division Soldier was shot in his home on Monday. Shortly after the incident, a subject was apprehended. Federal authorities are taking the lead and actively investigating this incident.

Today, Shafe made her initial appearance. If convicted, she faces a maximum penalty of life in prison.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Army Criminal Investigation Division are investigating the case, according to the Attorney’s Office.
