Jun. 23—A Raleigh woman was found to be at fault in a two-vehicle crash on N.C. 87 in May that killed a Cameron man, according to the Highway Patrol.

Shelby Elise Cornett, 20, was charged Monday with misdemeanor death by vehicle and driving left of center, according to a Sanford police arrest report.

The charges were filed by the Highway Patrol, but police served Cornett with the warrants at the magistrate's office, according to Sanford police Maj. Vinnie Frazer.

The wreck happened May 27 at 8:51 a.m. on N.C.87 between Commerce Drive and Winstead Road, according to a report filed by investigating Trooper S.R. Thompson.

Cornett, driving a GMC pickup truck registered to Professional Builders in Morrisville, was traveling south on N.C. 87 when the vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a northbound Ford pickup truck operated by Tracy Ronald White, 53, of Ridge View Drive.

The impact sent both trucks off the road, according to Thompson's report.

Both vehicles were traveling at an estimated 55 mph at impact, the report said. Cornett's truck traveled 62 feet off the road, coming to rest in a ditch on the northbound side of the highway.

White's truck traveled 189 feet after impact, also coming to rest in a ditch, Thompson said.

White was pronounced dead at the scene. Cornett was treated at an area hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the report.
