An in-custody death occurred at Mohave County Adult Detention Facility on Friday, Mohave County Sheriff's Office spokesperson announced Monday.

According to a Sheriff's Office news release, detectives were told that a woman in custody was being transported to Kingman Regional Medical Center. She was later identified as 36-year-old Megan Petersen from Bullhead City; she was transported by AMR ambulance and pronounced dead before she arrived at the hospital, the Sheriff's Office said.

Petersen was housed in the medical wing of the detention facility.

Petersen's body was taken to the Mohave County Medical Examiner's Office, where an autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death and examine the toxicology. The investigation was ongoing.
