Woman’s dad loves to play lottery games — so she tried her own luck and won big in SC

A South Carolina woman’s spontaneous decision to purchase a lottery ticket paid off in a big way, officials said.

The Lowcountry resident had no intention of buying a $300,000 Bonus Scratch game when she visited the S & R Plus store in Hollywood, South Carolina Education Lottery officials said in a news release.

She was shocked when she scratched the ticket to reveal the top prize: $300,000.

“I’m not a lottery player,” she told officials. “But I saw the tickets in the store and thought of my dad who plays the Lottery. So, I tried one. And boom, there it was.”

She said she felt like “a kid in a candy store,” according to the release. Her father was just as thrilled to hear about her win.

The woman beat odds of 1 in 960,000 to snag the $300,000 prize, officials said. Now, only four top prizes remain in the Bonus Scratch game.

“It gives me a fresh start,” she told lottery officials of her winnings. “I’ll play again.”

Hollywood is about 20 miles west of Charleston.
