Woman dies after 3-vehicle crash in far East El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) —A 47-year-old El Paso woman has died after a three-vehicle crash happened in far East El Paso earlier this month, according to El Paso Police.

Police say just before 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 4, Claudia Escobar, 47, was traveling on the 2100 block of N. Zaragoza in a Chrysler when she rear ended two vehicles that were stopped at a red light at the intersection of Zaragoza Road and Sun Fire Boulevard.

Police say Escobar was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries. However, the Special Traffic Investigations (STI) unit was notified that Escobar had died from her injuries on Monday, Feb. 12.

Police say the contributing factor in this crash is alcohol on the part of Escobar. No other injuries were reported at the time of the crash.

Police say STI is now investigating the case. This is the 9th traffic fatality this year compared to 12 in 2023.
