Woman dies after becoming unresponsive during basic training at Fort Jackson

A 39-year-old going through basic training at Fort Jackson died following her reception into the training unit Monday, according to a press release from Fort Jackson.

Pfc. Veronica L. Wynn was engaged in a training exercise when she became unresponsive, according to the release.

Emergency personnel performed life-saving measures and transported Wynn to a local hospital, where she later died, the release said.

“Today is an especially sad day for Team Jackson after the loss of one of our newest Soldiers,” Fort Jackson Commander Maj. Gen. Jason E. Kelly said. “We extend our deepest sympathies to her family, friends and loved ones. We are providing comfort and assistance to her family and fellow trainees.”

An investigation into Wynn’s cause of death is underway, the release said.
