Woman dies after being hit by train in South Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 34-year-old woman was killed early Thursday morning when she was hit by a train in South Nashville.

The crash occurred around 12:50 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4 near the 900 block of Currey Road, which is a residential area.

The Metro Nashville Police Department reported Alicia Lesch was was lying or sitting on the tracks as the train rounded a curve. The engineer told investigators Lesch was in the process of getting up, but that he could not stop the train before she was hit.

The victim’s family was trying to find Lesch in the immediate area when they saw the emergency vehicles at the scene, according to Metro police.

The investigation is ongoing.
