NYC woman dies after two Staten Island car crashes; injured first as a pedestrian and again in an ambulance, NYPD says

A Staten Island woman died Friday when the ambulance taking her to the hospital for injuries she suffered after being struck by a car was hit by a second vehicle and overturned, police said.

After the ambulance overturned, the 35-year-old woman was taken by another ambulance to Richmond University Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries, cops said.

The crashes began about 6:15 a.m. when the woman was struck by a Dodge Charger as she crossed the middle of Jewett Ave. near Keiber Court in Westerleigh, cops said.

Emergency medical technicians from Richmond University Medical Center placed the woman in the back of their ambulance and were rushing her to the hospital when the rig was T-boned by a Jeep SUV at the corner of Jewett and Main Aves. — about three blocks from the first crash.

The force of the impact sent the ambulance onto its side, cops said.

A second ambulance had to be called to transport the women and the three EMTs caring for her to Richmond University Medical Center.

The woman died at the hospital a short time later, cops said.

The EMTs were listed in stable condition.

The man driving the Jeep was taken to Staten Island North Hospital with minor injuries.

No arrests were made in either crash as cops continue to investigate.
