Woman dies after being struck by sedan on U.S. 1 in Fort Pierce

FORT PIERCE — A 60-year-old woman in a wheelchair died after being struck by a vehicle on U.S. 1, a Fort Pierce police official said this week.

The crash happened Sunday about 8:15 p.m. at U.S. 1 and Avenue D, said April Lee, police spokesperson.

Lee said a sedan traveling south on U.S. 1 struck the woman in the wheelchair, who was crossing U.S. 1 from east to west.

“She was heading west across U.S. 1 and was struck,” Lee said.

Lee said the motorist had the green light at the time.

The woman who was struck died not long after the crash, Lee said.

No other information, such as the identity of the woman who died, was available Wednesday.
