PEORIA − The name of the pedestrian who died Wednesday evening after being struck by a vehicle in Downtown Peoria has been released.

Jayne G. English, 77, suffered multiple blunt force trauma injuries and died instantly, said Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.

The accident happened about 6:10 p.m. in the 400 block of Liberty Street, said Amy Dotson, a Peoria police spokeswoman. An initial investigation indicated an SUV was headed south on Southwest Jefferson Avenue when it struck the woman as she was trying to cross the street, Dotson said.

When officers arrived, they found the woman on Jefferson where it intersects with Liberty Street. The driver remained at the scene, police said.

According to the Peoria Fire Department, a bystander was performing CPR on the woman when firefighters arrived. However, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
