Woman dies after being trapped in vehicle in Meriden crash

A woman died after being trapped in her vehicle following a crash in Meriden early Sunday, police reported.

About 3:29 a.m. Sunday two white Acuras were allegedly driving westbound on Main Street in South Meriden when one tried to turn left into a driveway at 133 Main St. As the first vehicle was turning, the other allegedly drove up from behind and struck the car near the driver’s side door, according to the Meriden Police Department.

The driver of the car that was struck, Denisse Acosta, 53, of Meriden, was trapped in her vehicle until firefighters from the Meriden Fire Department were able to extricate her, police said.

She was taken to the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain where she died from her injuries, police said.

The driver of the other car, Jonathan Reyes, 31, of Meriden, was not injured in the crash.

The Meriden Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit was investigating the crash. Anyone who witnessed the crash or who may have video surveillance of the incident is asked to call the Meriden police at 203-630-6201.
