Woman dies in broad-daylight shooting Saturday morning in southside Tallahassee

A woman was killed in a broad daylight shooting Saturday morning in southside Tallahassee — the second shooting in less than 48 hours.

The Tallahassee Police Department investigating the homicide that occurred at 10 a.m. in the 600 block of Palm Beach Street. According to a TPD news release, the woman was transported to a local hospital where "she later succumbed to her injuries."

"This remains an open and active investigation and updates will be provided as more information becomes available," TPD said.

The TPD Watch Commander was unable to release any details about whether the shooting was inside or outside a residence and if a crowd was around.

Officers are asking for anyone with any information to call 850-891-4200. They may also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 850-574-TIPS.

This incident marks the second shooting of the weekend. Two were injured in an early Friday morning shooting at a late-night warehouse party.

One man was shot in the wrist, and another man had a gunshot wound in his ankle.

"At this time, it is unclear if the victims were the target of the shooting. No arrests have been made and this investigation remains open and active," a TPD spokesperson wrote.

The shooting occurred during or after an event at Venue 1872, featuring musical artist Rob49. It was billed as the "No. 1 homecoming event Thursday" and was scheduled to end at 2 a.m. Venue 1872 is hosting a slate of off-campus events to coincide with Florida A&M's homecoming weekend.

The latest incidents of gun violence was the capital city and county's 77th serious shooting of the year. So far this year, 20 people have died in shootings and at least 65 have been injured, according to a Tallahassee Democrat analysis.
