Woman dies after her car stops on railroad tracks, is hit by train in Northeast El Paso

A woman died after the car she was driving was hit by a train Thursday night in Northeast El Paso.

El Paso Police Department Special Traffic investigators determined that Diana Saray Vasquez, 33 years old, of far East El Paso, was driving a 2015 Dodge Charger eastbound on Stan Roberts Sr. Avenue at 11:21 p.m. when she ran a stop sign at the T intersection of Stan Roberts and Dyer Street.

Police said Vasquez crossed into Dyer, went over a dirt berm and came to a stop on the railroad tracks.

A Union Pacific train traveling southbound on the tracks hit the Charger.

Vasquez was taken to University Medical Center of El Paso, where she died.

The investigation continues, authorities said.

This is the second traffic fatality of the year, compared with three at the same time last year.
